Card of the Day – Wednesday – Sept 18, 2013

Sage nautiz2

Today’s Card is The Sage and the rune-stave is Nautiz (need/desperation) and together they present a pretty clear message that on this side of the water might be called “stating the bleeding obvious.”

That would be: There is a great need for Wisdom and/or Wise People in the world right now.

However, even more than just that start and obvious message; the Sage card does provide  a small glimmer of hope that someone(s) may be able to help the world cope with The Beast this week by being aware that energy is around and by seeking to divert, calm or destroy it.

Any and all of those tactics might be in order in different locations depending on how the energy is manifesting.

On the other hand, such “Wisdom/Sage Advice” may be limited in numbers because the Need fire rune – the rune of the most ancient way of making fire (rubbing two sticks together) really demonstrates a truly desperate need for such interventions – and Sages tend to be long on logic and short of diversionary skills.  With the Beast logic and rational argument gets you know where; because this is a time when emotions are ruling the day in many ways.

Of course individuals can choose to use their OWN wisdom, rational thinking and planning to make their own “needful” choices and I think this combination is really good for the average person for that reason.

Realizing that people are more likely to react emotionally first and then think later; puts “wise folks” in the position of knowing that someone “needs” to keep their head and that can be you.

What simply won’t work is expecting everyone around you to do the same, because they probably won’t.

Look for news stories today about Wise Men (or women), think tanks, desperate situations (like Mexico, the US South West, Japan etc), charities, science discoveries, innovations (especially those that meet a need), anything nuclear (two sticks rubbed together to make fire/atoms crash to make power or bombs) and a lot of attempts in some places to try to figure out just exactly what is going on.

This need for Wisdom suggests that it is just possible that some of it will come forth today and that is a very good thing.  But the Need Fire rune worries me as well, especially because of its nuclear associations but also because this could be about economic or legal matters as well as natural/man-made disaster responses.

It is also possible that today marks a another pivot point mid-week where the energies could change to something a bit more rational and we can hope this is the case.

But over-all I just get the sense of a “desperate need for wisdom” …lets hope some manifests before the day is over.

Card of the Day – Monday – Sept 16, 2013

Moon Kenaz2

Today’s Card that starts off this week is The Moon and the rune-stave is Kenaz.

Now this suggests a time period where that which has been hidden is likely to start coming to the surface and be revealed.  Some of the information may be that of dreams (good ones and nightmares both) and some is likely to be explosive.

That’s because while the Moon Card is the Unconscious Mind, Dreams, The hidden World, etc; the Kenaz rune is usually translated as torch (as in fire) or a boil (that is getting ready to burst).  I often think of this as the “sideways’ volcano” rune because of its eruptive and fire aspects.

Like the sun based runes, it can also have hints of all things atomic and/or conventional explosives.  It is interesting that on this side of the Water (UK/Ireland) a flashlight is also called a “Torch” so in modern terms electricity can be included in this definition as well.

But most of all, I think the theme for this week is likely to be the gradual unfolding of hidden information that sets off a spark that may later result in an explosion or at least strong reaction when it finally all bursts out into the open.

In my audio reading (available after this evening) I noted the main card for this time people there was “The Beast” I’m mentioning this because when you combine the unknown/unconscious being revealed by the torch rune with the totally emotional (non logical) reactions of The Beast you have a real potential melt down possible on your hands.

That doesn’t mean the hidden revelations HAVE to result in the eruption of all the negative emotions the Beast tends to bring with it (anger, rage, jealousy, hate, fear etc) but it very much could if the eruptive energies meets with the Beast energies at just the wrong moment.

What we can hope for is that the more positive aspects of the Moon Card – positive dreams (as in hopes, desires, plans) etc that come forward as well and perhaps divert the Beast into safer areas.  The thing about Beast Energy is that it does not respond to logic or common sense; you have to either divert it, calm it or get out of its way but you can’t reason with it.

The Moon is also a very emotionally based card, the difference is because it comes from the human mind, you can reason with it a little bit and you can choose personally how to respond to it.  I mean no sand adult runs purely on emotional desires or wishes, even unconscious ones; we learn to sublimate and control our desires until the time is right – you don’t eat a donut in the swimming pool, you wait until you’ve finished your swim, take a shower, get dressed and then drop by the donut shop on the way home.

All the water in the Moon Card is like that, with the dreams and plans welling up gradually and being brought forth at their proper time (when things are positive).  The Kenaz rune suggests that some things may be highlighted a little faster than usual and that when people really understand what they mean the potential for an explosion is there (either real or emotional).

With the Beast at the helm for the next seven days or so, that emotional reaction is more likely than if say the Sage Card were still in a place of influence like it was during the week that the Russians started the ball rolling that restrained international military involvement in Syria.

But where wisdom and wise heads can force a pause or even change in the course of a crises, The Beast is just more likely to cause people to react without thinking.

I am hoping this is not the case, and for individuals it will be possible to modify this to a degree by simply realizing this is a week when it will be easy to have your unconscious and conscious “chains jerked” and to fly off the handle very easily.  Knowing that you can take steps towards personal calm by using meditation, music, directed thinking, personal mantras etc for yourself and being at least understanding if those around you start reacting emotionally rather than logically.

As I mention in the audio reading for radio show, remember than when the Beast is out (and even more when he is running with The Moon) you can’t reason you can only divert, calm or get away (and/or hide).

It is most important to remember in dealing with personal relationships this week that this is a time for listening when people are reacting emotionally,  but not a time for actually trying to present logical solutions because you are unlikely to be heard (in fact you might end up just another target for the rage). Just listen because a great many people are going to feel a need to vent this week but most of them will not really be ready to hear actual, concrete suggestions to solve situations during this time period.

When you ramp that up to the international level, you’ve just got to hope that someone has some patience to do the listening rather than just reacting back.  Otherwise things could get rather ugly pretty fast.

So another dicey week, but with some good elements at least in both the Moon Card and the light-giving qualities of the Kenaz rune.  Remember the torch not only lights up problems, it also can make a dark cave a whole lot less scary or be used to light a warm hearth fire in the fire-place.

Another week that is both “passive energy” (the Moon) and active energies (The Beast/Kenaz) – so hang on to your hats and keep a some nice donuts and popcorn around in case the show really starts.

Card of the Day – Tuesday – January 17, 2012

Today’s card is The Beast, the angry and unhappy dragon of deep emotions that rages within the hearts of all of us.  The Beast is a natural part of being human, as tiny children we allow him to express himself freely, as parents of two-year olds learn very quickly!  But as adults, most of us learn to put him behind a hidden door in our minds, only letting him out in measured doses, under the cover of “civilized” camouflage such as sports, duels, work-place politics, martial arts or even military training.

But no matter the masks we use to try to keep him to the back of our mind’s hallway, he is ever-ready to rush forward to the front and attack us when we least expect it.

There are no easy ways to deal with The Beast, but ignoring him does not make him simply go away, instead he gets ever more clever in figuring out ways to sneak past our defenses to lash out in dangerous ways.  This is another reason that healthy people and societies find the least dangerous ways possible to allow his expression.  Not to mention that from our earliest days, people needed to be able to hunt and compete for resources in order to simply survive.

This led to the idea of family and tribal bonds, within which The Beast was only “allowed” to express himself in certain defined ways.  People being people, there were always some who personally expressed the Beast more than others.  I’m sure the image of “The Angry Man” of the “Shrewish Women” would be as recognizable to people living 30,000 years ago in European caves as they are today; but to live in groups, their behavior had to be tempered and channeled somewhat, or in extreme cases they could be exiled from the group, which usually meant certain death or at least a life-time banishment from their original group.

In any case, one of the ways that people (and some of our great-ape cousins) seem to channel The Beast is to attack those outside of one’s family, tribe and later nations.  By historical times, entire populations could be whipped up into a collective expression of the Beast that allowed them to over-come the usual aversion that humans have to killing each other and instead lash-out in massed attacks that we refer to today as: warfare.

Early warfare seems to have been mostly display, where all the warriors dress up and challenge each other a lot (combine with vicious and swift raids on enemy villages to steal wives, resources and kill a few people).  Later this morphed into the more recognizable State Vs. State battles and struggles you see from the first City-States to the Modern Era.

There are no easy ways to deal with the Beast, for individuals the combination of recognizing he exists in everyone (no-one gets a pass on this one) and must be both acknowledged and harnessed can be helpful.

Try to run away from him, and he will over-power you, find ways to let him out on a leash and like a chained dragon he will rattle his chains but generally be held in check.

Also realizing that there are reasons for The Inner Beast/Dragon and that he is what gives us our inner fire and strength to perform the impossible and continue on when all things hopeless.

That sometimes, rage and anger can be appropriate responses – when you or your family are under unjust attack or suffering.

However, even when justified, The Beast needs to be chained not repressed; under a chain he can be guided by those with cooler heads (in other words your rational mind) to be let out at exactly the right moment to create positive, if sometimes drastic changes.

People with Beasts a bit closer to the surface than the rest of us, can often find certain types of action and meditation to be helpful in doing this.  Anything from extreme sports to meditations and shamanic work with animal powers (especially predators like wolves, lions or hawks).

As individuals, we can find it very hard to direct the actions of large groups; though of course all change starts with each one of us.

I am concern that on a macro-scale, today’s energy is very dangerous in terms of human conflict of all types; but especially that of violence and warfare.

Yesterday in a private world-reading, the cards for Union and Work came up; which also suggests possible labor confrontations, strikes, contract negotiations etc which could be affected this week.

When you have attempts at negotiations, settlements, contacts, problem-solving, budget cutting, business alterations etc going on, as you do all over the Western-World right now; the Beast card is the LAST card you want to see.

It means that the energy affecting everyone in these areas is going to be stressed, angry, jealous, unwilling to budge or even violent in nature.  This doesn’t mean everyone involved has to act on these energies, it does mean that they are the foremost energy “in the air” and going to have an effect on people, especially those who are not aware the energy is there in the first place.

Finally, in a time where violence (including street riots) and warfare are very close to the surface, again the Beast is the LAST card you want to have your primary energy for the day/week/time period.  That’s because under the influence of the Beast, leaders and generals of Peoples/tribes/nations are much more likely to simply “React” to a perceived threat rather than think about it and plan carefully.

Even when acting with violence may be the appropriate thing for a nation/military to do (in response to an actual attack or extreme threat of one), doing it under the influence of The Beast is quite frankly terrifying in terms of the chances for miss-calculation, error and bad-judgments.

Let us hope that we all get through this time period with a Beast held back a bit by the Chains of Rational Thought and Spiritual Wisdom; rather than a Raging Beast whose devours and tramples with his fire.

As always, as individuals, knowing this energy is out there we can simply take care to remind ourselves that if those around us are more quick to anger, upset, arguments, strife etc (of find themselves ready to explode when the pencil sharpener breaks) take a deep breath and say

“It isn’t just me, it isn’t just my co-workers/boss/neighbor/spouse/child, it is The Energy of the Day.”

Then let go of it, set your mind to the tasks at hand and try to be as kind and helpful as you can to others.   This will not only help you keep the Beast at Bay, but will also encourage this reaction in others.

So, that’s the rather heavy card for today, remember you can get your personal cards today or any day by ordering a reading.
